SUNDAY SCHOOL

YOUNG PEOPLE:

Sunday school classes for children are based on the Episcopal “All Things New” curriculum which explores not only scripture, but also the Book of Common Prayer, the church calendar and the way we worship.  For middle school and high school youth the “Episcopal curriculum for Youth” covers such topics as decision making and understanding the sacraments of the church.  Levels for children and youth include:

Preschool led by Karen Talbot
K through 2nd Grade led by Suzy Adcock
3rd through 5th Grade led by Lois Maberry
Middle School (6-8) led by Kelly Parker
High School (9-12) led by Mike Endicott

ADULTS:

Sunday school for adults includes two continuing classes that meet at 9:45 on Sunday mornings.  One class focuses on the scripture readings from the Sunday liturgy; the “Serendipity”, explores our relationships with God and one another.

CHURCH NURSERY

The church nursery is located in the St. James Parish Hall with care provided for infants through five- year- old children.  Our nursery teacher, Rhonda Robertson, is a long-time member of St. James with a B.A. degree in elementary education.  During the school year she is a kindergarten teacher in the Caddo School System.  Mrs. Robertson shares Bible stories and Christian videos with the children along with “play to learn” activities.  The nursery is open from 8:30 until noon on Sunday mornings.

EPISCOPAL YOUTH COMMUNITY (EYC)

Middle and High School youth come together monthly to enjoy one another’s company while sharing food, fun, faith-building programs, and ministry.  All youth, grades 6 through 12, and their friends of appropriate age are welcome.  Adult leaders are always present.  Special events and trips have included canoe trips to Arkansas and mission trips to help with hurricane damage in South Louisiana.  Kathleen and Larry Porter are the sponsors.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

Staffed by our EYC and adults, this is a one week program for our younger children to learn more about Christianity during summer vacation.  Activities for pre-school and elementary children include Bible stories, games, puppets, food, art, and music.  Fun and learning are the order of the day vbs.jpg (47156 bytes)

BIBLE STUDY

What does Holy Scripture say about life, death, family, forgiveness, and a myriad of other everyday questions?  This weekly ministry meets on Wednesday morning after Holy Eucharist in the St. James conference room and studies various books of the Bible, both Old and New Testament, to compare translations, opinions, and experiences.  It is led by Debbie Barnwell.

INQUIRER’S CLASS

A series of six classes is taught by the Priest in Charge, Father William Bryant as preparation to become an active member of the Episcopal Church. The class is usually offered 12 weeks prior to the Bishop’s annual confirmation visitation. Topics include the “Book of Common Prayer,” “Scripture, Reason and Tradition,”  “Sacraments, Services, Servers,” and “The Church Calendar and Lectionary.”
