Service Descriptions or What to Expect When You Walk in the Door
Never been to an Episcopal service before? That's OK! You will notice that our worship or liturgy as we call it is structured and comes from our Book of Common Prayer (BCP). The BCPs in our parish are RED. There is another book you will find in our pews called The Hymnal 1982 - these books are BLUE - and most of the hymns we sing are taken straight from inside its covers. When you enter our church a friendly usher will be there to greet you. S/he will hand you a bulletin that outlines the order of our service and what page numbers all of our prayers and hymns can be found on in the BCP and The Hymnal. S/he will also help you find a place to sit and can answer any questions you might have about the service.
| Rite I & Rite II - What's the difference? | ||
|
The major difference between these two liturgies is the language. Rite I reads like a page out of the King James version of the Bible. Lots of thees and thous and arts and hasts! The Holy Spirit is also the Holy Ghost in Rite I. Rite I liturgy has two Eucharistic prayers and only one form of the Prayers of the People. It is what one might call our more "traditional" service. There is no music at our version of this service, so some say it is a bit more contemplative than our later worship service. |

Rite II uses contemporary language and reads like any page out of any modern book. It has four different Eucharistic prayers and six different forms of the Prayers of the People. The Holy Spirit is not ghostly and overall there is a bit more required of the congregation in the way of participatory responses. Our version of this service includes music from our organ and our choir on most Sundays. However, on the third Sunday of every month we are treated to contemporary worship music brough to us by guitars, drums and our Praise & Worship Team! Musically speaking, we have a little bit of everything, so you'll be sure to find something that you enjoy! |

What to expect during the week - Wednesday Eucharist
Our service at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday is a Rite II liturgy without music. Included in this service are prayers for healing - we call this Unction. The only difference is that after everyone present has received communion, those who wish to receive prayers of healing remain at the altar rail until Morgan+ comes to each and lays hands upon them, anointing them with oil and praying for healing and strength. There is not a sermon persay at this service, rather we choose to learn a bit about the lives of the Saints we honor in the Epsicopal Church. Every Saint has a feast day, so we remember the life of the Saint whose day falls closest to Wednesday on our calendar! This service is small and intimate. There is a lot of space for prayer and meditation and it may be a great introduction to our liturgy if you have never been to an Epsicopal Church before!
Still have questions?
That's ok! Feel free to call the office (318-686-1261) or e-mail Morgan+ at for more information. We want your worship experience to be meaningful and any way we can assist you in this would be our pleasure!
